Divine Mercy Project
St. Thomas More Parish is one of the largest in the Archdiocese of Edmonton, serving around 35,000 Catholics in Southwest Edmonton and beyond. The community’s ongoing rapid growth has led to a strong, vibrant congregation, but also raised challenges in accommodating the spiritual needs of all parishioners.
With weekend attendance at approximately 4,100 and surging to nearly 10,000 during peak seasons, facilities are stretched beyond capacity, and limited space, parking, and accessibility hinder our ability to serve effectively. We’ve outgrown our space, and the need continues to rise. Given the urgency of this situation, we have been entrusted with the sacred mission of establishing Divine Mercy, a twin parish that will ensure every Catholic in Southwest Edmonton has a place to grow, worship, and serve.
In January 2020, the Archdiocese of Edmonton purchased a 10-acre parcel in Glenridding Ravine (north of 41st Avenue SW and east of 170th Street) for $9.7 million, to establish a future parish for Southwest Edmonton.
In 2021, Former Archdiocese of Edmonton Archbishop Richard W. Smith, announced the new Parish, Divine Mercy.
With a targeted construction completion of 2032, and an $18 million project budget (2025$), St Thomas More Parish is responsible for bringing our twin parish to life. We have the special opportunity to live out our faith, and create a lasting legacy for generations to come, through the Divine Mercy Project!
Contributing to the Project
A general donation to St Thomas More Parish is a donation to the Project.
Just as those who came before us sacrificed to build the parishes that have nurtured us, we have the chance to ensure that this gift of faith continues to thrive and grow. $175 per month from each St Thomas More family, through regular weekly mass collections, is the suggested contribution to keep St Thomas More operating, and reach our project goal – or about $40 each week.
Every additional gift, no matter the amount, brings us closer to completing the Divine Mercy project and helps lighten the load for others who may not be able to give as much right now. If you’re in a position to give more, your generosity is truly transformative, and helps to minimize inflationary cost pressures over the Project’s development.
Thank you for considering how you can be part of this mission in a deeply meaningful way.
You can select either the General Fund (which will support both St Thomas More and the Divine Mercy Project), or Divine Mercy Project to direct funds to the Project.
